Military Medal 'For great gallantry and devotion to duty. Near Gravenstafel on 4th October, as a Company runner, he acted with most exemplary bravery and dash. He displayed most untiring devotion to duty in taking messages to and from the front line under fire, invariably delivering them safely. His wonderful cheerfulness under the most trying conditions as well as his courage, was a splendid example to all ranks.'
