Proceeded overseas to France, 11 February 1917; joined 2nd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 2 June 1917, and posted to B Company.

Detached to Brigade Dump, 6 June 1917.

Wounded in action, 7 June 1917 (gun shot wound, right wrist), and admitted to 77th Field Ambulance, and transferred to 11th Casualty Clearing Station; to No 1 South African General Hospital, 8 June 1917; to No 5 Convalescent Depot, 11 June 1917; to Base Depot, Etaples, 2 July 1917; rejoined Bn, 24 August 1917.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 9 September 1917, remaining on duty.
