'For bravery in action and devotion to duty. In operations east of St Julien on 4/10/17 Private Shaw continuously carried reports between the forward guns and his Company Headquarters, and brought back information during the early stages of the advance which was of great value. He was reliable and untiring in all his work, and showed an absolute disregard for danger. In the course of his work he frequently acted as guide to parties going up to the forward positions with supplies.'
