Source: London Gazette Date: Mentioned in Despatches 'For conspicuous good work during the operations around Messines on the 7th and 8th June 1917. Lieut Scoular accompanied the assaulting troops, reporting progress and keeping Battalion Headquarters fully informed as to the progress of the battle. He was indefatigable in his work and throughout the 7th and 8th June displayed marked ability and initiative. When, on the evening of the 7th June 1917, the
Adjutant of the Battalion became a casualty, Lieut Scoular carried out his duties. Lieut Scoular was also largely responsible for the successful assembly of the Battalion prior to the assault.'
