Embarked Wellington, 16 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 29 December 1916, and marched in to Sling Camp, and reverted to Lance Corporal.

Proceeded overseas to France, 11 February 1917; joined 2nd Bn, Wellington Infantry Regiment, 27 May 1917, and reverted to the ranks.

Wounded in action, 19 June 1917 (gun shot wound, left leg and arm), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to 14th General Hospital, Wimereux, 19 June 1917; to England, 27 June 1917, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 17 August 1917; discharged to Headquarters, London, 1 November 1917.
