'On June 1st 1916, communication was interrupted between the battery and the Forward Observation Officer. In spite of heavy shelling and bombs from enemy trench mortars Gunner Savingy together with Bombardier Kennedy went forward to repair wires. On arrival at the Forward Observation Officer Station they found that the telephone dugouts had been blown to pieces and stayed alongside repairing wires and keeping in touch with the battery although under a heavy fire at the time.'
