Military Medal 'During the attack on the Messines Ridge on 7th June 1917 he was Signalling Sergeant for the Battalion who on the morning of 7th June repeatedly laid his line
to Brigade Headquarters under heavy shell fire. Though unsuccessful in maintaining communication he stuck to his work and showed courage and devotion to duty in a very marked way. Though knocked about by shell fire several times he continued at his duty.'
