Mention in Despatches 'At Flers on the 16th September this Officer was in command of the Ruahine Company of this Battalion. His company was assigned the left half of the objective attacked by the Battalion, and succeeded in taking and consolidating its objective in spite of severe casualties. He showed great bravery and coolness in reconnoitring the position before the attack, and judgement in handling his Company throughout the operation until he was killed by a shell on the afternoon of the 17th September.' Awarded, and promulgated, 'London Gazette', 4 January 1917. |
