Proceeded overseas to France, 15 August 1916; joined 2nd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 25 August 1916, and posted to A Company. Wounded in action, 15 September 1916 (gun shot wound, left hand), and admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance; transferred to 38th Casualty Clearing Station, 16 September 1916; to No 4 Convalescent Depot, 18 September 1916; to Base Depot, Etaples, 29 September 1916. On leave to United Kingdom, 1 September 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 14 September 1917. Reported wounded and missing, 12 October 1917.
