Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as battalion scout officer. He led his men in an advance of over 11/2 miles in perfect order after a long march. By his skilful observation and reports he was the means of inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. He led his scouts as an organised platoon behind a threatening gap and prevented the enemy from penetrating a thin line at a critical time. He showed
great courage and skill.'
