Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on Bancourt on the 30th August. He acted as Company Runner and worked day and night under the most trying conditions. During the advance he organised and led forward scattered parties, and continually set and admirable example of bravery and zeal to all ranks. He was wounded in the leg while leading a platoon out on relief, and while they were being heavily shelled, but refused to stop until the whole Company were clear of the shelled area.'
