War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 25 July 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 3 October 1916, and marched in to Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 20 October 1916; joined 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 22 November 1916, and posted to 16th Company. On leave to the United Kingdom, 16 October 1917; rejoined Bn from leave, 30 October 1917. Appointed Lance Corporal, 7 February 1918. Detached to 2nd Brigade School, 9 February 1918; rejoined Bn from detachment, 23 February 1918. Wounded in action, remaining at duty, 13 April 1918; admitted to 2nd NZ Field Ambulance, 14 April 1918 (shrapnel wound, right leg); discharged to unit same day. Killed in action, 7 September 1916.
