Found guilty, NZ Base, Etaples, 17 June 1916, of being drunk in lines: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 1.

Joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 27 June 1916, and posted to 14th Company.

Admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, 8 July 1916 (bronchitis), and transferred to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance; discharged to unit, 15 July 1916, and rejoined Bn same day.

Found guilty, 23 August 1916, of (1) leaving the ranks without permission while on line of march; (2) being absent without leave from 2 pm, 19 August, until 9.30 pm, 20 August 1916: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2, forfeiture of 14 days' full pay, and forfeiture of 2 days' pay by Royal Warrant.

Found guilty, 28 August 1916, of (1) while in confinement being in possession of liquor; (2) being drunk; (3) striking an NCO; (4) using obscene language to an NCO:Awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 1, and forfeited 28 days' full pay.

Wounded in action, 21 September 1916 (gun shot wound, face); admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 22 September 1916, and transferred to 38th Casualty Clearing Station; to No 6 General Hospital, Rouen, 23 September 1916; attached to Base Depot, Etaples, 29 September 1916; rejoined Bn, 5 October 1916.

Found guilty, 12 October 1916, of when on Active Service being absent without leave from Tattoo, 8 October, till 3 pm, 10 October 1916: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 3 days' pay by Royal Warrant.

Attached to NZ Working Bn, 15 April 1917; rejoined Bn, 19 June 1917.
