Military Medal 'Operations opposite Polderhoek 27th November to 1st December 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the period 28th, 29th and 30th November 1917, when heavy enemy shelling had cut the wire from Battalion Headquarters to the front line. Sergeant Rigby on his own initiative moved fearlessly under the bombardment, repairing the wire and doing everything humanly possible to keep up communication with the advanced posts. On two occasions he was blown considerable distances by the explosion of bursting shells. His imperturbability and cheerfulness were not affected, and his resolution and devotion to duty under the most trying circumstances set a splendid example, and were worthy of the highest traditions of the Signal Service.'
