Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack on the Polderhoek Chateau on 3rd December 1917, this NCO took up a position in front of the Infantry, and whilst they were consolidating, he kept his gun in action under a heavy bombardment, engaging the enemy, with direct fire, and neutralising the enemy's fire. His coolness and magnificent devotion to duty set a fine example to those around him.'
