Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This man's Platoon was one of three isolated near Hebuterne on 27th March 1918. The enemy placed a machine gun on the flank of his platoon, inflicting severe casualties upon it. This man on his own initiative rushed the gun. He shot three of the gun crew and wounded several of a party of six who retreated. He then returned with the machine gun.'
