Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion in laying and maintaining lines for the 3rd N.Z. (Rifle) Brigade during he period 14th September to 1st October 1916 and especially during the 15th and 16th September when the Brigade was in the firing line. His courage under heavy fire was conspicuous. The lines he maintained during the period specially noted were laid between Crest Trench and S.6. central and ran through the hostile barrage maintained on Switch Line.'
