'For conspicuous gallantry and courage in the face of the enemy during the operations on the 8th October 1918, between Crevecouer and Wambaix. After the capture of the second objective Rifleman Ramsay took forward his Lewis gun and opened fire on an enemy Field Gun situated on the Right of Wambaix, and in spite of the approach to two enemy tanks, directly towards him, he continued firing on the enemy Field Gun until he had routed the crew. He then directed the fire on to the Tanks and kept firing until the tanks were 150 yards off, where they were knocked out by two of our own tanks. This gallant act was a great inspiration to all who saw him, especially as it occurred at a time when the situation had become rather difficult.'
