Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 7th September 1918, in front of Metz Private Rae was a Company runner, keeping communication between
patrols and his Company Commander. Although he had several times to traverse open country for 1200 yards under very heavy machine gun and rifle fire he
continued to carry messages and kept the patrols in touch with Company Headquarters. Throughout the operation his courage and devotion to duty were of
a high order.'
