Meritorious Service Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the period 25th February 1918 to 16th September 1918. Sergeant Quirk is the Senior Brigade Clerk. His conduct and work during the period mentioned has been of the highest order.
During frequent hurried moves and quick advances he has always kept up with the Brigade Staff. On many occasions although being very exhausted through long tiring matches, he has always carried out his work in the most capable and painstaking manner thus ensuring that Battalions received their orders in ample time for forthcoming operations. On several occasions it has been necessary for him to remain in exposed positions under shell fire while writing down and sending
out orders.'
