Bar to Military Medal 'For action at Western outskirts of Warneton. For conspicuous gallantry under heavy shell fire and devotion to duty. On the night of 28th/29th July during an enemy raid on the Battalion sector telephone communications between the front line Coy and and Batln Hdqrs was lost shortly after the commencement of the enemy bombardment and no information was obtainable concerning the position. Pte Quinn was ordered to proceed to the front Coy Hdqrs and bring back a report of the situation from the Coy, Commander. The enemy barrage on the support line and behind it was of the most severity and if the report had not been essential and of the utmost importance it would have been unfair to have asked any man to have passed through it. Pte Quinn reported as ordered and brought back a report of the situation passing right through the barrage twice. I consider that his act apart altogether from its value was one of exceptional gallantry. He undertook the task with the fixed idea of accomplishing it, although the chance of his doing so was apparently remote. He has already been awarded the M.M. for previous good work.'
