Proceeded overseas to France, 26 September 1916; joined 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 12 October 1916, and posted to 10th Company.

Admitted to 77th Field Ambulance, 14 May 1917 (mumps); rejoined Bn, 28 May 1917.

Wounded in action, 12 June 1917 (gun shot wound, left leg); admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance, 13 June 1917, and transferred to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to 14th General Hospital, Wimereux, 14 June 1917; to No 1 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 30 June 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 11 August 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 23 September 1917; rejoined Bn from leave, 6 October 1917.

Killed in action, 12 October 1917.
