Military Medal 'Near Pont a Pierres on October 27th 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. His battery whilst marching along the road came under heavy fire from a 21cm Howitzer Battery, one team receiving a direct hit. Sergeant Potter with the
greatest coolness and disregard of personal safety went to the scene and conducted the removal of the wounded men and the cutting out of the unwounded horses from the teams. The shelling was persistent, and Sergeant Potter remained at the point of greatest danger till every man, horse and vehicle was clear. It was solely due to the coolness and gallant conduct of this NCO, that the casualties were not greater.'
