Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was Adjutant of his battalion, and when his commanding officer and second in command were wounded, he took command of the battalion in the attack. He captured the objectives and held them against three strong counter attacks, though very few officers were left. He showed great courage and initiative throughout.'
