Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Colincamps on the Ancre on 5th April 1918, when the enemy attacked in superior force. Rifleman Poole was in charge of a Lewis gun which he handled with great fearlessness. As the enemy
pressed towards his post he punished them so severely that they were forced underground. At one time an enemy machine gun was mounted suddenly only 120 yards away, but Rifleman Poole dealt with it so effectually that after the burst it was completely silenced and did not fire again. His work throughout the morning was characterised by an utter disregard of danger, and his gallantry under heavy fire was an inspiration to the men of his section.'
