War service: Western Front Embarked Dunedin, 21 August 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 25 October 1916, and marched into Sling Camp. Posted to 4th NZ Machine Gun Company, Grantham, 18 December 1916. Admitted to Venereal Section, NZ Command Depot, Codford, 29 December 1916; discharged, 18 January 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 20 days. Found guilty by District Court Martial, 19 June 1917, of when on Active Service deserting His Majesty's Service, i.e. absent without leave from 3.30 pm, 4 June, to 11 am, 7 June 1917, when under orders for Overseas: sentenced to undergo detention for 1 year, and forfeited 4 days' pay under Royal Warrant, and 11 days' pay net. Marched into Grantham, 5 July 1917, having been released from detention, 4 July 1917; sentence remitted. Proceeded overseas to France, 6 July 1917; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 11 August 1917, and posted to 4th Company. Admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, 8 September 1917 (pyrexia, unknown origin); rejoined Bn, 11 September 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal |
