'For consistent good service and devotion to duty. This Officer has been Battalion Grenade Officer and Bombing Instructor since February 1917. He took part in the operations near Messines in June and near La Basse Ville in July where he rendered very valuable and gallant service. He ensured and supervised the supply of ammunition, bombs and rations right up to the front line during periods when shelling was most severe and displayed consistent gallantry and devotion to duty throughout. He has shown great ability and rendered most valuable service in training and bringing to a high standard of efficiency all rifle grenadiers and bombers in the Battalion. As an Instructor he inspired the greatest confidence.'
