'Messines Offensive: 7th to 9th June 1917. During the attack on 7th June 1917, Pte Pinching showed conspicuous gallantry throughout the advance during the consolidation of the captured position. He bombed the crew of a Machine gun which would have held up the advance, and thus enabled the crew to be captured. Later he rushed forward and bombed a dugout before the occupants could get out to fight, thus leading to the capture of 30 prisoners.'
