Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field near Briastre on 11th October 1918. This NCO was in charge of the Lewis gun Team when his platoon attacked two enemy machine gun positions. By skilful manoeuvring under difficult conditions he got his gun into position and engaged the enemy, enabling the platoon to successfully rush both enemy posts. Later, while covering consolidation he beat off a determined attempt by the enemy to recapture one of the positions. His initiative and courage set a splendid example to his section and platoon.'
