Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations on 12th September 1918, near Gouzeaucourt. While in charge of a Platoon of the
Supporting Company he led a section of his men against the enemy in a sap, with great initiative and courage. He personally bombed and killed several enemy, forcing his way to the front line with his Platoon. By this he relieved the pressure of the enemy at a critical time and assisted in connecting up two companies. Throughout the operations of the preceding four days he has done exceptionally fine work and has set a grand example to his men under trying conditions.'
