Meritorious Service Medal 'Operations: Becelaere Sector 9th December 1917 to 22nd February 1918. For devotion to duty. This NCO has always shown marked ability and devotion to duty. He has always overcome all difficulties, refused to take "no" for an answer, and never spared himself in order to increase the comfort of his men, In the delivery of rations and stores he always personally supervised everything no matter where his Company may have been. Nothing was too trivial for him. He has rendered splendid service to his Company, and set a splendid example of cheerfulness and energy to his men. This NCO has served continuously with the Battalion since May, 1915.'
Source: London Gazette Date: Mentioned in Despatches 'Operations ON Somme: 20th September/4th October 1916. Flers, Grid Trench and British Front South of Armentieres November 1916. For gallantry and devotion to duty. Corporal Peglar has served with the battalion for 21 months and during the whole of that period has been employed on patrol work. On September 27th 1916, to the north of Flers he went out with the patrol in daylight to within 3 yards of the enemy line and obtained very valuable information. He took part in a raid of November 21st and both on the night of the raid and during the reconnaissance prior to it did very valuable work. In addition to the above specific occasions, he has continually shown himself to be cool and brave and has always been ready to undertake any dangerous work. He has previously done good work in Gallipoli.'
During August and September 1915, he was attached to the 13th Division and
employed on scouting and patrol work at Suvla Bay. After rejoining the Company
he did much patrol work. On the 9th July 1916, when the company was raided he
acted with great coolness and daring.'
