Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field at Briastre on 12th October, 1918. This NCO, on account of casualties was left in command of his platoon, and whilst consolidating his sector, was enfiladed by heavy machine gun fire. He showed great control over his men and successfully established his
positions. This enabled an attack to be made from the rear on the machine gun, thus making good the remainder of the final objective.'
