Military Medal 'Action: Drop Alley, Goose Alley, West of Flers, 21st September 1916. During the afternoon of the 21st September when the 2nd Canterbury Batt. was counter attacked from three directions, i.e. Goose Alley, Flers Trench and Flers Support Trench, and while his officer was absent at his other gun till forced back by enemy. He then skillfully withdrew his gun from a dangerous position and brought it into action again further along the trench, this materially assisting to save a dangerous situation. This NCOs conduct during the operations has been marked by coolness,
ability and resource.'
