Meritorious Service Medal 'For consistent devotion to duty during the period 22nd September 1917, to 24th February 1918 and especially during the operations at Gravenstafel on 4th and 5th October 1917, and in front of Belle Vue Spur, West of Passchendaele, 12th to 15th
October 1917. This NCO was in charge of the dressing at the forward Advanced Dressing Station, and on more than one occasion worked persistently for 36 hours on end. His untiring work and devotion to duty during the whole time, combined
with cheerfulness and care of the wounded were an incentive to all the other dressers and helped greatly in the rapid dressing and evacuation of the wounded. On October 13th when the bearers had become tired, he gathered a squad together and went forward to the Bearer Posts and continued to act a bearer for many hours till all the wounded were brought in, in spite of the fact that he had
already been on duty for the previous 24 hours. His work has always been of a meritorious standard.'
