Meritorious Service Medal 'For consistent good work and devotion to duty during the period the Battalion has been in the Ypres Sector, viz, from 16th November 1917 to 24th February 1918. Private Pahina had at all times displayed great coolness under fire and on one occasions when his party was employed repairing Main Road a battery of New Zealand Field Artillery was heavily shelled. Pahina together with some others went to Artillerymen assistance and helped to extricate three of the guns from a precarious position.'
