Military Medal

'For continuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field during operations extending from 17.7.18 to 4.9.18. During the enemy's first retirement from his front line positions between Hebuterne and Gouzeaucourt this NCO did admirable and gallant work in leading his section down the old saps against the enemy rearguard parties. Later during the operations in front of Bapaume when his Platoon Officer was killed he took command, and in a most skilful manner handled the platoon in a particularly intricate and dangerous situation. He has throughout exhibited sterling qualities of leadership and bravery under intense fire and has set a fine example to his command.'
