Mentioned in Despatches 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 7th June at Messines this non commissioned officer led his men with great dash and gallantry to their objective. Under very heavy shell fire he rapidly consolidated his position and established a forward strong point. His example in coolness and his disregard for personal safety under most trying circumstances greatly inspired the men under him. Throughout he showed great daring and devotion to duty, and by his cheerfulness at all times has been a splendid example to all ranks.'
