War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 26 June 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 22 August 1916; marched into Sling Camp, 23 August 1916. Proceeded overseas to France,26 September 1916; joined 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 12 October 1916, and posted to 14th Company. Admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 31 December 1916 (diarrhoea), and transferred same day to Divisional Rest Station; rejoined Bn, 8 January 1917. Found guilty, 22 February 1917, of disobeying standing orders and neglect of duty: forfeited 10 days' pay gross. Admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 19 May 1917; discharged to duty, 25 May 1917, and rejoined unit same day. Attached to 1st Field Company, NZ Engineers, 4 June 1917; rejoined unit, 28 June 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917. Burial 20 yards from Waterloo Farm reported by 2nd Corps Burial Detachment (undated); grave subsequently lost. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal |
