Embarked Wellington, 15 November 1916 on board HMNZT 'Tahiti'; admitted to ship's hospital, 31 December 1916; disembarked devonport, England, 29 January 1917, and admitted to hospital, and relinquished appointment of Lance Corporal.

Proceeded overseas to France, 28 May 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 6 February 1918; returning from leave, admitted to 51st General Hospital, Etaples, 1 March 1918 (venereal disease: gonorrhoea); discharged to duty, 1 May 1918; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 61 days.

Transferred to NZ Cyclists' Corps, 3 May 1918.

Detached to NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 3 July 1918.
