Military Medal 'Operations: British front in the vicinity of the Foret de Mormal, 5th November 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the above operations Lance Corporal O'Dell was in command of a Lewis gun section. The advance was held up by an enemy machine gun strong point. This NCO rushed his gun forward to an exposed position on the flank silencing the hostile machine gun thus enabling the attacking troops to capture the strong point and the advance to continue. By this NCOs bravery and absolute disregard for his own personal safety
he undoubtedly saved many casualties and set a magnificent example to all ranks.'
