Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the morning of the 2nd October 1917 during the course of a heavy bombardment, one of the men of the post was buried and severely wounded. In spite of the heavy fire, this man stood out on the parapet and dug his comrade out, and afterwards carried him in daylight back from the front line. His great bravery undoubtedly saved his comrade's life.'
