Military Medal 'For exceptional gallantry. On the morning of the 27th July this man took part in the attack by his Company on La Basse Ville. He led numerous bombing attacks and himself entered and bombed a number of cellars occupied by the enemy in the village. Through sheer dash and bravery he captured single handed 14 of the enemy, conducted them to the strong post occupied by his section and subsequently brought 12 of the prisoners back to our lines. He displayed most commendable initiative throughout the operation and led his section with the greatest skill and courage.'
