War service: Egypt, Western Front Enlisted with rank of private and posted to B Company, 6th Reinforcements, Trentham Camp, Upper Hutt, 20 April 1915. Proceeded overseas from Wellington on board HMNZT 'Willochra', 14 August 1915. Disembarked Suez, Egypt, 26 October 1915. Marched in and taken on strength Wellington Infantry Battalion, Moascar, 9 January 1916. Admitted to hospital (sick), 15 February 1916; discharged from hospital and rejoined unit, 21 February 1916. Proceeded from Alexandria, Egypt on board HMT 'Arcadian' to France, 6 April 1916; disembarked at Marseilles, France, 12 April 1916. Found guilty, 21 June 1916, of being absent without leave while on active service in the field from 9:00am to 2:55am, 20 June 1916: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2. Deserted to enemy, 29 June 1916;discharged as a deserter, 29 July 1916. Reported to be interned at Dulmen POW Camp, Westphalia, Germany, 30 August 1916. Ineligible to receive medals. |
