Military Medal 'Action in front of Belle Vue Spur, west of Passchendaele, 12th October 1917 and following days. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 12th October 1917, this non commissioned officer showed great bravery and devotion to duty in freely exposing himself to fire from machine guns and snipers when reorganising his Section, and assisting other Section Commanders to reorganise theirs. Later in the day when all Company runners were out of action he carried important messages back to Battalion Headquarters, passing through extremely
heavy shelling on six separate occasions. His total disregard for his personal safety was a fine example to all the men.'
