Meritorious Service Medal 'For continuous good work and unfailing devotion to duty. Staff Sergeant Nicholson is Orderly Room Clerk to this Battalion and during the fighting in September, October and November, when casualties were heavy, his work was trebled. Added to this, he had to carry out his duties in dug-outs under the most trying circumstances, but by his splendid organisation and untiring energy, he kept the position in hand and records, states and returns were forwarded punctually and accurately. It was to a great extent due to his devotion to duty, that, in 7 weeks of almost continuous fighting, this Battalion had only two men "missing".'
