Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty. On September 2nd 1918 in Operations about Haplincourt, while in command of a Lewis gun Section, under heavy fire and by skilful manoeuvre, he outflanked two enemy machine gun posts situated in a sunken road which were holding up the platoon on his right. Using enfilade fire, he wiped out most of the crew and the remainder surrendered. His gallant action and leadership undoubtedly saved many casualties and allowed the advance to continue.'
