Military Medal 'On the night of the 20/21st April 1918, Bombardier Newman was in charge of a party which was salvaging ammunition from a dump near Colincamps. The area
was subjected to continuous machine gun fire and to sharp bursts of heavy shelling. Although the work was being conducted in the middle of the dump, this NCO kept his men together, and went steadily on removing ammunition throughout. By his energy and coolness a splendid was set to those under him.'
