Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in active operations during August and September 1918, and especially from 9th to 12th September near Gouzeaucourt Wood. He acted as No 1 bayonet man in a bombing party and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. He acted as such with six different parties on different occasions and was finally wounded by an enemy bomb. His work has been of rare quality and a splendid example to all those who witnessed it. His untiring energy and gallant conduct was most inspiring and cheered his comrades to greater
efforts.'
