Wounded in action, 4 October 1917 (high explosive wound, left buttock), and admitted to 44th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 5th Casualty Clearing Station, 5 October 1917 ('very extensive wound of hip and loss of muscle'); admitted to 8th General Hospital, 8 October 1917 (wound: severe); transferred to England, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 12 October 1917.
