Military Medal 'For conspicuous courage and coolness under fire on June 7th 1917, at Messines. This man repeatedly took messages and signals up to the post advances of the early established regimental aid posts under the severe artillery fire. Late at night on the 7th June he volunteered to guide a squad up with water to the Aid Post although the bombardment had increased in intensity and it looked impossible to get through safely. His courage and bravery on this occasion was magnificent and enabled this party to successfully carry out their task in safety.'
